PTSD Beyond Combat

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, PTSD, doesn’t just impact people in the military. PTSD can happen to anyone that has gone through a stressful event. Imagine PTSD as an unprocessed negative event. This could be anything from an accident to a difficulty break-up. It isn’t so much about what the happened, as much as it is about how it impacted you.

If the trauma is not healthily processed it can remain in your brain stuck in time. This means that an event from 20 years ago can impact you as though it is still occurring today. You may find that your relationships and/or general life functioning is impacted by anxiety or depression. Are you avoiding certain places or situations concerned about a negative reaction? These reactions are called triggers. Sometimes triggers are so deeply imprinted in the brain you may not even fully recognize the level to which you are impacted or why. This is common for people who have experienced trauma. You are not alone in these experiences. Through mental health therapy, you can begin to address these feelings and traumas. Therapy can help decrease negative emotions, feelings and reactions. Contact AMR THERAPY to learn more.
