Peer to Peer Support Services for Queer Males

What are Peer Support Services and what is a peer counselor?

Peer counseling is an effective way of assisting and supporting people, on a variety of issues, by pairing them with people who have shared those life experiences.

Peer counselors use their own stories in helping others develop hope and improve their lives. Think of it as a ‘tutor/mentor’ of sorts; peer counselors have dealt with the same issues as you have!

At AMR Therapy, we take a strong interest in the issues faced by those cis and transgender men who are part of, or exploring, the larger Queer (gay, bisexual, trans, questioning, curious) community. We counsel the comprehensive male community on such issues as:

  • Coming out and dealing with family, friends, religion, school, professional and other societal pressures.
  • Issues of open relationships, polyamory, and navigating the waters of alternative lifestyles.
  • No issues that you face are off the table—we are open to discussing anything in your life that is involved with your self-identity.
  • Peer counseling give you the ear and understanding of someone with experience in you world.
  • Your peer counselor can meet with you one-on-one, or they can also facilitate group discussions where appropriate.
  • Many times, a client’s needs to involve and actual therapist, but rather seek someone to simply talk with, someone who understands their situation. However, AMR Therapy’s peer counseling has behind it the entire experience of licensed and certified professionals, and your peer counselor is able to refer certain issues and problems to the therapists themselves.
