Letter from the founder during Pride month

Dear Queer Community,

As we celebrate Pride Month, I want to take a moment to reach out and extend a heartfelt letter to all of you. My name is Ann Russo, and I am writing to you as the founder and clinical director of AMR Therapy, an inclusive mental health practice dedicated to providing tailored care to members of the LGBTQ+ community and other marginalized communities.

First and foremost, I want to say how proud I am of each and every one of you. The LGBTQ+ community is a beacon of resilience, strength, and love. We have come a long way, fighting for our rights, challenging societal norms, and demanding recognition and acceptance. In the face of adversity, we have built communities, found chosen families, and embraced our identities with courage and authenticity.

As a mental health professional, I have witnessed the vital importance of mental well-being within our community. I understand the unique challenges we face and the impact they can have on our lives. This understanding stems not only from my professional background but also from my personal journey.

Growing up in the 1980s-1990s, I witnessed firsthand the struggles and discrimination faced by LGBTQ+ individuals. My own coming out process further opened my eyes to the importance of mental health care. It was during those formative years that I realized my calling was to advocate for and support the LGBTQ+ community.

Through years of education and personal growth, I have dedicated my life to understanding the mental health outcomes of LGBTQIA+ individuals, particularly those raised in fundamentalist households. My studies in theology, focusing on “homosexuality and Christianity,” allowed me to explore the intersections of religion, oppression, and our community’s mental well-being. This knowledge, combined with my master’s degree in social work, has equipped me with the tools to provide empathetic, affirming, and accessible therapy.

In 2018, I founded AMR Therapy as a solo practitioner, driven by a deep desire to create a safe and inclusive space for individuals seeking support. Today, AMR Therapy has grown into a thriving practice with a remarkable team of therapists who share my passion for providing high-quality mental health care.

As we celebrate Pride Month, it is crucial to recognize the significance of mental health within our community. We have fought for equality, but we still face unique challenges, such as stigma, discrimination, and the effects of minority stress. It is essential to prioritize our well-being, to seek support when needed, and to recognize that we are not alone on our journeys.

AMR Therapy is here for you. Our practice offers remote therapy services, ensuring that you can access care from the comfort of your own space. We understand that seeking support can be intimidating, but our team of therapists is dedicated to providing a safe, affirming, and empowering environment. We celebrate your identities and experiences and are committed to helping you navigate the complexities of life, heal from past wounds, and thrive in the present.

During this Pride Month, let us embrace our strengths and reflect on our journeys. Let us honor the sacrifices of those who came before us and paved the way for our freedom. Let us remember that mental health care is not only important but also an act of self-love and self-care. And let us continue to uplift and support one another, creating a community that is resilient, compassionate, and inclusive.
